It is not uncommon for pet lovers to consider their pets children. Their dear lives touch our humanity in a profound way, engaging joy and playfulness on a regular basis and bringing comfort with their enduring love and their warmth of presence. How many of you have had a true friend in a cat or a dog, or any other pet? How many of you have look forward to seeing them at the end of your work day or at the end of a school day? They are a joy. And it is hard to deal with their death. This story from the New York Times by Dana Jennings about an ailing family dog really brings it home how close to the heart pets are:

Jennings wonderfully relays the symbiotic nature of a human/pet relationship. How much we rely on each other and how reaffirming a pet can be simply through his/her needs and wants and noises. We wish Mr. Jennings and Bijou all the best.

Great blog. We are foster parents for our local humane society, but they still need so much help. I wish people would look there for animals before anywhere else. Great way to bring some attention to the cause!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Sassypants Wifey! I too wish that more people would look to the shelters. I don't know where local humane societies would be without its foster parents. Thanks for all that you do!
